RME's high-end ADI-2 Pro and ADI-2 DACs have impressed us - but now RME has come up with a more affordable variant of the series. Their new ADI-2 FS delivers the same great A-D/D-A conversion as the more expensive "PRO" series models, and it includes SteadyClock technology for jitter reduction. However, RME drops a few features here that some users don't need. For example, the display and "on-board" menus are missing here compared to the PRO versions. All controllable functions are accessible directly from the front panel. This not only reduced the price, but also made operation and orientation much easier.
The ADI-2 is a versatile compact two-channel AD/DA converter with Hi-End specifications, offering analog signal conversion to S/PDIF, AES and ADAT digital formats. Conversion works in the other direction, of course. Key parameters of this system are symmetrical inputs and outputs, monitoring via headphone output. SteadyClock technology for maximum correction of jitter and inaccuracies during conversion ensures maximum sound quality with absolute independence from the accuracy and quality of the control sync `clock`. LED indication of input and output signal levels and sync status gives the user all important information about the operation of the converter. The ADI-2, like other R.M.E. systems, has both external and internal power supply options. All voltages from 7 to 30 V, AC/DC, conventional and rechargeable batteries are accepted.
