The Tapped-Fifty pickup with added windings gives the guitar a classic 50's gypsy jazz or country sound or a contemporary properly hot southern sound, depending on the setting of the vari-coil control. The volume knob features a push/push function to remove the circuit with fixed treble settings and instead get two distinct warm sounds accented in the bass. The standard potentiometers and vari-coil knob are surprisingly complemented by a three-position toggle switch - offering different settings (bypassing the knobs in different configurations), giving the guitar a fairly wide sonic arsenal.
The strings are anchored in Wilkinson tuning machines via a GraphTech zero fret, and through a classic steel T-style cob with brass saddles through the body. The guitar is supplied in a case.
Fret-King electric guitars were brought to life in the 1990s by renowned guitar designer Trevor Wilkinson. Since 2008, the Fret-King brand has been distributed by JHS, where it is an extension of the popular Vintage models.
