The five-string banjo Gold Tone OB-3 is a replica of the famous pre-war model RB-3 ("Banger") of the equally famous American bluegrass banjo player JD Crowe. What makes this banjo special is the "No Hole" tone ring, which is credited for the instrument's beautiful sustain backed by a mahogany resonator with beveled sides and a three-ply maple body.
An eleven-inch Remo HC Coated Topside is attached to the body by a tensioning system, i.e. a one-piece intermediate ring, a pressure ring and twenty-four hooks. The neck and headstock are mahogany, the rosewood fingerboard surface is divided by twenty-two frets. The strings are mounted in Gotoh Planetary tuning machines and over a maple and ebony (5/8 Snuffy Smith) bridge in a Presto-style truss rod. The nice workmanship is accentuated by the armrest, decorative position markers in imitation mother-of-pearl, nickel hardware and cream ABS binding.
