FENDER CUSTOM SHOP 1996 Custom Shop Stratocaster Mary Kaye Cunetto Relic R0660
Electric Guitar | Product code:
HN236861
American guitarist and singer Mary Kaye appeared with this model in the Fender catalogue in the 1950s. Although it was essentially a coincidence, as she almost always played lubes and other brands of guitars, this one photo has forever defined the cream ´57 Stratocaster with gold hardware as the Mary Kaye Stratocaster. Fender has subsequently reissued this model as a signature instrument several times throughout history.
The Mary Kaye Stratocaster was also one of two prototypes that Fender introduced at the 1995 NAMM Show in relic, or artificially aged, form. It was something completely new at the time, the instruments really looked like collector's gems from the 1950s, and to make it clear that they were not fakes, they had the Custom Shop logo stamped on the back of the headstock. The relics were initially handled exclusively by Vince Cunetta's shop, and the instruments that passed through his hands are still highly prized today, including this example, which was made in 1996.
The ash body is lacquered in transparent cream, and is joined to a choice all-oak neck with a thicker ´57 profile, in which 21 frets are set.
The instrument is in excellent condition, after a small repair - the holes for the screws holding the neck in the body were removed. Newer are 3 small springs on the keystones. Everything else looks original. The neck is in excellent condition. Includes original case and Fender Custom Shop certificate. This is of course a used item, it is being sold under the BAZAAR VAT regime.
