Two studio classics in one chassis
The Universal Audio 6176 combines the 610 tube preamp and the 1176LN transistor compressor/leveler, making the 6176 a totally unique channel strip. The preamp section offers mic, line and instrument hi-Z inputs, dual-band EQ, 15 dB pad and gain and level controls. The dynamic section retains all the classic features of the legendary 1176LN compressor.
Both of these units have separate inputs and outputs, so they can be used completely separately in mode, or in series, using the JOIN/SPLIT mode switch on the front of the 6176.
Classic vintage sound for your modern studio
Advances in digital recording technology provide users with tremendous power and flexibility. However, the sound quality of these systems is often limited by their input phases. Often pitted against the power and flexibility of today's recording technologies is the desire for the classic warm tone of analog circuits of yesteryear. By combining the highly acclaimed 610 preamplifier with the legendary 1176LN compressor, the 6176 creates a unique single-channel path for any input signal. You get the unmistakable character of analog circuitry right out of the box.
Legendary tube preamplifier
The 6176's Preamp/DI/EQ section is based on the legendary console modules developed by Bill Putnam in the late 50s and early 60s. countless classics from Sinatra, the Beach Boys to Van Halen and Coldplay have been recorded using these preamps, and they stand out for their unique "warm" sound, which is the reason behind these tube preamps. The preamp delivers a full sonic palette from warm, crystal clear to rich vintage coloration with deep saturation.
The 610 preamp offers a classic tube Mic/Line preamp with 48V phantom power for your condenser microphone, hi-Z instrument input, 15 dB pad, polarity re-polarity and flexible dual impedance selection for Mic and DI inputs. For maximum flexibility, you also get great-sounding low-frequency and high-frequency shelving EQs, each with three selectable suspension frequencies. The 6176's preamp section packs tremendous sonic versatility and is the ideal front-end with the authentic vintage sound of Universal Audio's legendary amps for your modern DAW.
The transistor compressor that defined music history
In 1967, Bill Putnam released an upgraded transistor version of his highly acclaimed 176 tube compressor, for a new modern era in dynamics processing. The new 1176LN became an instant standard in sound processing and defined the sound of all the great and now legendary recordings. It features very fast attack-release responses and a wide range of timbres that positively affect the sound, from subtle light compression to spectacular distortion. UA recreates this legend among compressors for this versatile channel strip 6176. No more bland drums, crumbled and unclear bass, or lackluster vocals. With the Universal Audio 6176, you get a fully analog input signal that no digital simulation can replace.
Handcrafted in Universal Audi's labs in Scotts Valley, California, the 6176 offers superior quality and inimitable sonic character at an affordable price.
