The name Cajon comes from the Spanish, where the word means box - this tells us not only about the shape but also about the origin of this Latin American percussion instrument. It is actually a wooden box with a sound hole in which tuned strings are stretched, like those of a snare drum. It is said that this instrument originated when slaves who were forced to get rid of their traditional drums used fish or fruit boxes instead. Nowadays, the Cajon is used in all musical styles where Latin American influences are noticeable, as it is at home in flamenco or rumba. It is a very versatile instrument and it is not for nothing that a skilled player is said to be able to imitate the sound of virtually an entire set of drums.

This particular Cajon, like all the Cajons produced by Tycoon Percussion, is the product of pure handwork. Moreover, it is carefully tested after assembly so that there can be no doubt about its sonic qualities. You simply cannot go wrong with Tycoon Cajons.

The wood used is birch and comes directly from Finland - the body of the cajon is constructed from ten layers of birch, while six layers were used for the soundboard. Sonically, it's simply a classic - solid bass and pleasantly sharp slap tones. The strings are fully tunable with a standard inbus (hexagonal) wrench.
