Grand Canyon is a complex multifunctional delay and looper effect from the American brand Electro Harmonix. It is an extended version of the popular EHX compact pedal. It offers twelve Delay effects including emulation of the legendary Memory Man effect, tape echo, impressive Shimmer effect surfaces and other delay effects in great sound quality, plus a looper with sixteen minutes of recording time.
The pedal operates in three basic modes, Delay, Delay + Looper and Looper, which you select between with the corresponding white button. Depending on the selected mode, the function of the four basic controls and the Tap/Loop switch changes - in Delay mode, the potentiometers determine the progress and character of the effect modulation, and the switch activates the Tap Tempo function (with the possibility to dial in nine rhythmic subdivisions, i.e. intervals ranging from a quarter note with a dot to a sixteenth note triplet); in Delay + Looper mode, the switch activates the looper. In the last mode, all functions are subordinate to the looper, which allows you to play, layer, reorder, delete and save your tracks. The recorded loop remains in memory even after switching to one of the delays or putting the pedal in bypass mode.
The Delay Type control is used to select between the box's twelve effects. Their character is influenced (in addition to the setting of the four basic controls) by two parametric mini knobs whose function changes depending on the effect type set. Pressing the Delay Type knob for a long time and then lighting the Preset LED will save the current setting of the selected effect. In this way, you can save and reopen a total of twelve presets (one for each type of delay effect) plus one looper setting.
An external expression pedal (not included) can be connected to the pedal. Its function depends on the setting of the Exp Mode button. In On mode it can be used to control any selected parameter of Delay or Looper modes. In Off mode, it works as a volume control for the clean/dry signal. You can also control individual functions using an external footswitch (not included). The remaining backlit function buttons determine whether the effect modulation (in Delay and Delay + Looper modes) will take place only when the Bypass/Stop switch is pressed/held (Moment On) or in the standard way (Moment Off), whether the delay effect will reverberate even when the pedal is switched to Bypass mode or Looper mode (Trails On) or whether it will be cut off dramatically (Trails Off). The last Ping Pong button activates the panoramic L/R stereo effect.
The Rex mod is wired as a buffered bypass. The included 9.6VDC adapter is used to power the effect. The effect does not offer the option of battery power.
