VOX made the world's first quacker in the 1960s, changing the sound of rock music forever. In 1967, all guitarists rushed to buy the original V846 quacker with the unmistakable VOX sound. Since then, the V846 has earned its place in rock history as its sound has appeared in countless legendary songs and concerts, including Jimi Hendrix's famous 1969 Woodstock concert.

And now we're back in 2011, forty years later in the hot present. The V846 is enjoying its renewed debut as the V846-HW - a hand-poured quack. While the classic tone of the quacker is unquestionable, the V846-HW was not just made as a copy of a historic piece, but writes a new chapter for the future. As its name suggests, the V846 features hand-soldered solder plates. But VOX didn't stop there. Every component, including coils, resistors, capacitors or potentiometers, has been carefully selected to meet the highest standards of reliability and sound. In fact, a true bypass circuit was added. The effect is housed in a cast sandblasted box with a wrinkled surface. The V846-HW is the perfect combination of world-renowned VOX technology with classic and modern features, making this quacker sound better than any other quacker in history.

True Bypass
Because this quacker was made for the audio purist, True Bypass circuitry must be present. When the effect is turned off, there must be no unwanted coloration of the sound or loss of sound quality.

Vintage coil, continuous pedal potentiometer
The coil is the heart of every quacker. The V846-HW uses a specially modified vintage Halo coil. Carefully selected material for the magnetic core and winding ensures perfect reproduction of the original V846 sound. A sound that has become sought after by many guitarists around the world. The pedal potentiometer is specially developed by VOX and provides a characteristic response and is sealed to make it last longer. Thanks to the remarkably smooth movement from the first phase of the pedal's movement - a phase that is somewhat problematic for conventional pedals - a sensitive response with an unrivalled degree of control is guaranteed.

High-end components offer maximum sonic potential
Carbon resistors are used for their extremely low noise level and for their undistorted sound. Like the hand-poured VOX instruments, the quacker uses high-quality, film-filled polyester capacitors. The pedal's top-of-the-line pedal is manufactured by Carling Technologies and was chosen for both its reliability and pedaling comfort. Input and output are here in the form of jacks from The Switchcraft®, known for their robustness, simple construction and high reliability.
