The saxophone, made mostly from brass, is a wind instrument with a prominent place in jazz or wind orchestras; the instrument is also used to a lesser extent in classical music. The instrument is relatively young – it was built in 1840 by Adolph Sax. The most common saxes used today are the soprano sax in B, the alto sax in Eb, the tenor sax in B and the baritone sax in Eb.
