The AD17's body is made of solid spruce front and solid ovangkol back and sides, with the wood grain accentuated by an Urban Sienna stained finish. The patented V-Class ribbing improves the guitar's performance in three aspects - increasing the instrument's volume, extending sustain and improving intonation.
The mahogany neck is glued to a eucalyptus fingerboard. The same material is also used for the headstock and the headplate. Orientation on the fingerboard surface is facilitated by positional dots made of imitation mother-of-pearl. The strings are mounted in the company's nickel mechanics. The nice workmanship is accentuated by a rosette composed of three rings of Hawaiian koa, a black perimeter band of the top and a pickguard made of imitation tortoiseshell.
The instrument is supplied in a soft case (Aerocase).
Compared to the modern acoustic sound of Taylor guitars, Grand Pacific instruments offer a wide warm sound across the entire frequency range with musical cleaner bass that also doesn't stand out at the expense of other frequencies. Unlike standard Dreadnought models, they are not so musically tied to a particular sound and playing style - combining the power and character of bluegrass guitars with the pure tone and playing comfort that songwriters and guitarists who prefer fingerstyle playing will appreciate.
