The combination of a solid American Adirondack spruce soundboard with an equally solid back and sides made from genuine mahogany (the wood of the Swietenia family of trees - Honduran, American/Cuban or Mexican mahogany) gives the guitar a rich, clear tone with a balanced balance of tonal clarity and warmth. The soundboard has undergone a torefaction process and other modifications prior to assembly, which the manufacturer collectively refers to by the acronym VTS (Vintage Tone System). As a result of these processes, the wood takes on the unique sonic characteristics of mature woods that are fifty years old or older in a short period of time. The guitar's good acoustic properties are accentuated by the guitar's authentic Scalloped 1933 Rearward-Shifted X-Brace.
A real mahogany neck, standardly attached to the body at the fourteenth fret, is joined by an ebony fingerboard fitted with twenty frets. Orientation on its surface is facilitated by frontal pearl (Abalone) position markers and side dots made of imitation ivory. Precise tuning and good sustain are guaranteed by the attachment of the strings through the saddle and the bone zero fret in the open nickel mechanics and ebony bridge.
The refined look of the guitar is accentuated by the imitation tortoiseshell body binding, the Madagascar rosewood back and headstock veneer, the Martin logo in gold, Butterbean tuning pegs and a practical imitation tortoiseshell pickguard, which also protects the guitar's lacquer from scratches.
The American Martin company, founded in 1833, is deservedly one of the biggest and most respected names in stringed instruments. For decades, it has been one of the leading innovators in guitar design and manufacturing technology. However, to use only the past tense would be a great mistake; instruments with the Martin logo are still today among the guarantees of the highest quality in craftsmanship and sound. In addition, their current products use "eco-friendly" components made from renewable resources and composite materials.
