Analog synthesis on the go!
Powered by two AAA alkaline batteries, you can hold the compact Monotron with one hand. So you can concentrate on the most important sound parameters. There are five knobs and one switch on the panel. Anyone can now create in the world of analogue synthesizers.
The Ribbon Keyboard Controller has its own expression
Monotron has taken the simple touch controls from the extremely popular KAOSS PAD. With just a flick of your finger you can produce expressive effects such as vibrato and glide.
1VCO, 1VCF, 1LFO - modular synthesis blocks
The circuitry of the monotron is very simple: one voltage-controlled oscillator, one voltage-controlled filter and one low-pass oscillator. Since each knob directly applies a specific sound change, the sound creation process is intuitive and immediately understandable. There is beauty in simplicity. There are precise preset and parameter listings typical of today's synthesizers. In addition, the monotron is extremely conducive to exploration and experimentation. With the monotron, you'll enjoy the sonic creativity that comes from the heart of analog synthesis, making it an ideal choice for someone new to synthesizers or for musicians looking to expand their sonic palette.
Korg's famous filter
The Monotron uses the same famous VCF circuit as the classic, semi-modular KORG MS-10 and MS-20 synthesizers. These came on the market about 30 years ago, and yet are still popular today for their aggressive, dynamic filters. The VCF Cutoff knob sets the frequency of the filter sound, the VCF Peak knob adds gain. A powerful filter is an essential element of any analogue synthesizer, applying dramatic changes to the sound and giving it the intense personality that is crucial in live playing.
Utilising semi-modular technology
As with the original MS-20, the monotron filter can be "merged" so that any external sound source can be processed by the monotron filter. An input jack (AUX) in the monotron's compact body adds the AUX input signal directly in front of the VCF block. This gives you a great way to plug a KAOSSILATOR, guitar or digital audio player into the monotron and take advantage of the filter's sound editing effects.
The versatile LFO offers audio - and visual - fun!
You can switch the LFO so it controls the oscillator pitch or filter threshold frequency. The LFO Rate and LFO Intensity knobs are also found here. Rotate the LFO Rate knob - equipped with an LED - to adjust the modulation rate, and the LED's blink rate will change accordingly. By turning the knob, you can add a higher level of impact during live playing.
Listen anytime - alone or with friends
The Monotron has a built-in miniature speaker and only two AAA batteries are needed to power it. Despite its miniature size, this system brings new possibilities for playing. There's also a headphone output that you can use when making sounds at home, when recording, or when plugged into an amplifier or PA system.
