Established guitar brand Ibanez has returned to the country and bluegrass waters after years and has included a brand new five-string banjo in its range.
This is a resonator, i.e. a banjo with an arched closed back cover, which allows the instrument to offer a full, loud sound. The resonator and body are made of sapele. A definite plus (considering the price of the instrument) is the brass tone ring, to which the Remo Weatherking membrane is attached by means of a tensioning system (twenty-four hooks, a steel pressure ring and a two-piece intermediate ring).
A purpleheart wood fingerboard with twenty-two frets is glued to the okoumé neck. The fingerboard surface is embellished with a decorative motif made of imitation mother-of-pearl. The strings are anchored in friction type tuning mechanisms via the plastic zero fret, on the other side via the purpleheart/maplewood fretboard in a chrome-plated stringer. The nice workmanship is accentuated by the chrome shoulder rest, chrome hardware and decorative inlay of the imitation mother-of-pearl headstock.
