The iconic L-2000 bass was designed by Leo Fender himself in 1980, and it was clear even then that it was a revolutionary instrument. They've always been hugely popular thanks to their extremely wide sonic possibilities, which is why you'll find them in the hands of many musicians across the entire spectrum of musical genres and styles. Thanks to the L-2500 models, you can also enjoy them in a five-string version.
The body of this instrument is made of poplar, which gives it great resonance. The neck, with a pleasantly thin profile, is then made of extra-hard maple and given a glossy finish, while the fingerboard is made of rosewood and features 21 nickel medium jumbo frets or a 12" radius.
Sound pickup is handled by a pair of MFD's proprietary humbuckers made in California, complemented by a very flexible Tri-Tone system. This combination will give you a wide range of sonic possibilities that you just won't find anywhere else. The Tri-Tone system consists of a trio of mini switches that control pickup selection, series/parallel connection, or passive/active mode operation. In addition, you have potentiometers for overall volume and a two-band equalizer.
The instrument is equipped with the innovative Saddle-Lock headstock, designed in Fender's workshops, which allows great vibration transfer to the body, giving the instrument maximum resonance.
The G&L brand was founded in the late 1970s and early 1980s by Leo Fender, George Fullerton and Dale Hyatt. The design of electric guitars and basses with the G&L logo thus hints at what other world-famous brands might have looked like if Leo Fender hadn't got rid of it in the mid-1960s.
