The special shape of the aluminium construction features MDE minimum bending technology, where the sound is distributed evenly in all directions, no matter what angle you are at from the monitor. Inside the durable construction, there is a 4" woofer complemented by a 0.75" tweeter with a metal calotte. Both speakers have their own Class D amplifier, which allows for a maximum power output of up to 100W (LF 50W + HF 50W). The speakers also feature DCW (Directivity Control Waveguide) technology, which for example increases the transducer sensitivity up to 6 dB, increases the SPL capacity, reduces sound distortion and improves the stereo imaging and soundstage. The monitor also incorporates a sophisticated protection circuit for safe operation, which can reduce the output level in the event of overheating, thus extending the life of all monitor components.
Genelec's strong suit is certainly the room response compensation. This means that you can always adapt the sound signal to the dimensions of the room or studio, its acoustics and other characteristics that affect the resulting sound. On the back, you will find a five-sector filter with Intelligent Signal Sensing - ISS technology (when in station mode, the power consumption is less than 0.5 W), two Bass Tilt switches to change the range of bass frequencies below 2 kHz by 2/4/6 dB, a Bass Roll-Off switch with a -4 dB filter for the lowest bass frequencies around 65 Hz (suitable for use, when the monitor is placed against a wall), a Treble Tilt switch to attenuate highs above 5 kHz by 2 dB, and last but not least, a Desktop Control that reduces bass frequencies around 200 Hz by 4 dB when the monitor is placed horizontally on a desktop. The advanced bassreflex design then removes adverse vibrations inside the monitor, extending the frequency range with powerful bass. Active crossovers ensure balanced, high-quality sound by splitting the original signal into frequency bands, which are sent on to the powerful woofer and tweeter amplifiers. The back also features a sensitivity control (-6 dB to +6 dB) to adjust the crystal clear sound without any distortion.
You connect your device to the monitor using the XLR input on the back. All connectors are located at the bottom, so you can safely place the monitor up against the wall. The Genelec 8020D can be supported by an Iso-Pod stand that allows for a wide range of angle adjustments, or you can use Genelec's large variety of brackets and hanging systems to mount the monitor to your needs and liking.
