The platinum anniversary of the Fender Stratocaster design is commemorated by both limited-edition Fender standard models and exclusive Fender Custom Shop models. One of them is the
Limited Edition 1964 L-Series Stratocaster Heavy Relic, 3A Rosewood Fingerboard, 3-Color Sunburst.
The body of the guitar is made of two pieces of alder. The Heavy Relic finish, with its distinctive elements of faux patina in the form of "scratched lacquer", faded hardware and other battle scars, convincingly evokes decades of intense playing and gigging, even though this is a brand new, not boutique/bazaar, instrument. Glued to a maple neck (rift-sawn) with a 1963-style "C" profile is a 3A-quality rosewood fingerboard fitted with twenty-one Medium Vintage (47095) frets.
The guitar's sound is handled by three hand-wound Custom Shop pickups ('64 Single-Coil Strat, the middle one has reversed polarity and windings). The character of the sound can be manipulated using the volume potentiometers, tone shutter and five-position pickup switch. Tone degradation when working with the volume potentiometer is prevented by the Vintage Modified #2 circuitry with the Tone-Saver Bleed circuit.
The strings are held in place via a bone fretboard in vintage-style tuning machines and a Custom Shop synchronized tremolo. The stylish finish is accentuated by a three-ply mint green pickguard.
The guitar comes in a case (Deluxe Hardshell) along with a strap and certificate of authenticity.
