This model of the Goodtime Special five-string banjo is one of the so-called resonators, i.e. it has a domed maple wood cover with black trim on the back. The Special in the name refers to the special patented steel tone-ring. Thanks to the combination of resonator and tone-ring, the banjo has a clear tone and piercing sound that will surprise many. Its sound is at home in a wide range of styles, whether as a solo instrument or as part of a band. The instrument's maple fingerboard is fitted with twenty-two pakfong frets, and orientation around its surface is made easy by the design's position markers. An eleven-inch bellows is attached to the tone-ring by a steel rim. The strings are mounted in high-quality closed mechanisms (including the fifth pin) on one side, and in a nickel-plated steel stringing box on the other via a maple/ebony fingerboard.
All Deering instruments (from professional models to the entry-level Goodtime line) are made in Spring Valley, California, USA by skilled craftsmen. Here, each piece is given the same care and attention to meet strict quality standards.
