ARTURIA KeyStep 37

Arturia introduces the Keystep 37, a compact MIDI controller that, with its extensive connectivity and advanced features, aspires to become the control centre for all your analogue and software equipment. Plus, it has a built-in sequencer, arpegiattor and keys that are a joy to play.

The Keystep has 37 dynamically responsive Slim Key aftertouch keys, which have been carefully reamed to ensure that you don't have to sacrifice anything in your playing, but the instrument retains its compact size. Compared to the classic version, the KeyStep 37 has an integrated chord generator with a clear dipole and a control panel for detailed rank settings such as chord type, velocity and articulation.

Many players will also appreciate the built-in sequencer and arpeggiator. In sequencer mode you have up to 64 steps with polyphony, so you can use a total of 8 notes per step. You can change the sequences in real time, and if you want to play and sequence at the same time, you have two separate MIDI channels at your disposal. Arpegiattor offers 8 different decomposition and rhythm modes, so you can quickly create everything from simple melodies to totally messed up structures.

What makes Keystep a unique controller is its extended connectivity. In addition to the standard USB, you'll find MIDI input and output, clock sync jacks, DIN sync jacks, CV/Gate outputs, and a separate CV output that can be assigned to a Mod control, keyboard dynamics, or aftertouch. In practice, this means that you can use Keystep to control not only software, but also a whole collection of analogue synths and modules, sync MIDI devices etc. The USB port charges the controller when connected to a computer, if you want to use it standalone you can plug in an adapter.
