The MICHAEL LANDAU COMA STRAT electric guitar from the Fender Stories Collection represents the current form of the 1959 Stratocaster model "Coma", which, already modified with altered finish and pickups, was purchased at the age of 16 by Michael Landau (Joni Mitchell, Seal, Michael Jackson, B.B. King, Pink Floyd, Miles Davis) at a local Los Angeles musical instrument store.
The alder body of the guitar is adorned with satin nitro lacquer and a Coma Red finish. A maple neck with a "Custom C" profile is glued to a rosewood fingerboard fitted with twenty-one Narrow Tall frets. The fingerboard surface orientation is facilitated by imitation mother-of-pearl position dots.
The sound of the guitar is provided by a Wide Range humbucker and two ultra noiseless single-coils. The character of the sound can be adjusted using the volume potentiometers, tone shutter and five-position pickup switch. The strings are anchored by Fender ClassicGear tuning machines and a synchronized vintage-style Strat tremolo with a six-bolt attachment and steel block. The stylish finish is accentuated by a four-layer imitation tortoiseshell pickguard.
The guitar comes in a deluxe case along with a guitar strap, stickers and a limited edition Michael Landau pick box.
