The FLATV1 electric guitar by Ibanez is the signature model of blues rock guitarist Josh Smith.
The ash body in the original single-cut Ibanez AZS design is in the case of this guitar without any ergonomic modifications in the form of cutouts, bevels, etc. The heat treatment of the guitar's maple neck and fingerboard improves the wood's properties (stability, durability, resistance to water and temperature fluctuations) and gives the guitar the look and feel of an already proven instrument. FLATV's one-piece maple neck profile offers similar specifics to the "Soft V". Twenty-one rounded Medium-sized frets (Prestige fret edge treatment) divide the fingerboard surface. Orientation on the fingerboard is facilitated by black position dots and luminescent markers on the side.
The two signature Seymour Duncan single-coils, i.e. a cobbler with a mix of various Alnico magnets and a vintage-style neck single-coil, offer both a full and bright sound that matches Josh Smith's blues rock sensibilities. The character of the tone can be shaped using the volume potentiometers, tone shutter and three-position pickup switch.
The strings are anchored by Gotoh's stylish tuning machines and cob. The "In Tune" titanium saddles, designed in collaboration between Ibanez and Gotoh, feature grooves that actively prevent the strings from slipping (the first and sixth saddles have rounder edges and deeper grooves). The stylish look is accentuated by the curved control plate of the AZS series guitars, bright pickguard and chrome hardware.
