PLACID AUDIO Carbonphone / Tone Box

Unlike most modern microphones, the Carbonphone model uses a capsule with a carbon insert that successfully mimics the sound of traditional carbon microphones. As the first practical microphones, these were widely used until the 1940s, and then you could find them in phones, for example, until the 1980s. Like these historic microphones, the Carbonphone therefore provides a unique, slightly unpredictable response that creates a naturally distorted "lo-fi" sound. This is often compared to the sound of old vinyl records or military radios, for example.

With these microphones, top quality is a given and you will find, for example, a Soviet "military grade" carbon capsule or a high quality output transformer from Hammond that allows you to take advantage of a fully balanced output signal.

Also included is a "tone box," which not only provides phantom power to the microphone, but also allows you to continuously select from five different audio filters, giving you a significantly wider range of sonic options. The tone box is powered by a 9V adapter (included) and can also be used with other microphone models.

The entire microphone is handmade in the USA and is housed in a solid copper chassis that will not only give it reliable protection, but also a unique design. In addition to the microphone, an adjustable 5/8" threaded aircraft aluminum bracket is also included. The microphone requires phantom power.
