The design of the S-branded instruments is based on the specifics of the more compact Lowden guitars (S stands for Small Body), similar to the Orchestra/OM models or the "00" two-string guitars, for example. Thanks to the appropriate choice of materials and ribbing, it offers, for the size of the body, a sonorous sound with decent bass that is sure to please a wide range of guitarists, including children.
The front of the S-02 is made from solid Sitka spruce, which is complemented by over-ply Indian rosewood on the back and sides. The resonance of the top is enhanced by the spruce ribbing (Lowden A Frame), and the playing comfort is enhanced by the armrest (Soundbox Bevel). The mahogany neck, standardly attached to the body at the fourteenth fret, is glued to an ebony fingerboard fitted with twenty frets. The strings are anchored in chrome tuning machines and an ebony headstock via the TusQ zero fret. The fine workmanship is accentuated by the wooden rosette and pau ferro veneer on the headstock.
The guitar's sound system is provided by an L.R. Baggs Element VTC active electronics system with an endpin jack preamp, which also features a built-in LF compressor (operating in the sub-400 Hz frequency range). Volume and Tone controls are discreetly placed in the instrument's soundhole.
The guitar is supplied in a gig bag.
