The HA-S is a DIY headphone amplifier kit equipped with a Nutube tube that lets you listen to high quality audio wherever you go. The built-in Nutube tube
The Nutube is a new and revolutionary all-analog vacuum tube developed by KORG INC. and Noritake Itron Corporation. As with a conventional vacuum tube, the Nutube is constructed with an anode, grid and filament, and functions as a complete triode. It generates the response and the same rich harmonic characteristics as a conventional vacuum tube, but is more compact, stable and energy efficient. The transparent HA-S packaging offers a glimpse of this technology, making the lamp's glow visible in any situation.
Energy-saving
The Nutube filament is powered by a DC/DC converter, which consumes less electricity and thus allows for longer battery life than other tube-powered amplifiers. This design is so efficient that the HA-S can power the Nutube with 26V DC thanks to two A4 batteries.
Sound capabilities
The HA-S has a special NFB (negative feedback) switch that allows you to choose between a superbly clean and faithful sound, or the warmer, harmonically richer sound you expect from the tube. When the NFB switch is turned off, the harmonics that are in the Nutube (triode tube) are amplified to produce a sound rich in harmonics, warmth and texture. When the switch is on, the distortion ratio and frequency characteristics are altered to provide an extremely detailed and clear sound.
To further modify the sound, we've included two operational amplifiers at the output: the high-end MUSES01 audio amplifier and the industry-standard NJM4580, both from JRC. They can be easily swapped out, so even the biggest audiophiles will be able to customize the HA-S sound to their satisfaction.
For advanced users who want to customize the amplifier even further to their taste, a circuit drawing is provided so they can swap out even the smallest components to make a custom and unique headphone amplifier that reflects their dream tone and presentation - the possibilities are endless!
