Fender continues the process of dusting off older, lesser-known electric guitar designs with the Lead series. These are the double-cut body-shaped instruments first introduced to the musical public in 1979 as a cheaper, yet attractive, alternative to the Stratocaster/Telecaster models.
The alder body of this guitar is complemented by a gloss polyester lacquer finish. A maple neck with a pleasing "Modern C" profile is glued to a bolt-on maple fingerboard fitted with twenty-two Medium Jumbo frets. Position markers make it easy to navigate its surface.
The instrument's voicing is taken care of by two of the company's "hot" humbuckers with Alnico magnets, which provide the guitar with proper drive. Standard controls in the form of volume potentiometers, tone shutter and a three-position pickup switch are complemented by a second three-position switch with coil-split function - so the humbuckers' sound can be changed to single-coil in seconds.
The strings are mounted in the company's vintage-design tuning machines and in a solid cob with six saddles (anchoring the strings through the body). The stylish design of the instrument is embellished with a black three-ply pickguard.
