The body of the seven-string Viper model is made of mahogany. To the neck, composed of three pieces of mahogany with a set-thru construction, i.e. a neck recessed deeper into the body, and a narrower fast Thin U profile, is glued a fingerboard made of Makasar ebony with a longer (baritone) gauge of 686 mm fitted with twenty-four Extra Jumbo frets. Thanks to the longer gauge, the guitar can handle extreme string tuning. You won't find position markers, luminescent dots or anything that would interfere with the dark concept on the guitar.
The passive Blackened Black Winter humbucker in the bridge position offers good distortion, high output signal and a typically cool "Scandinavian" tone. The needs of metal players are also catered to by the austere controls in the form of a single volume potentiometer. Tuning stability and good sustain are guaranteed by the string attachment in the company's quality LTD Locking mechanisms and in the solid Tonepros Locking TOM tailpiece and strings. Hardware and the company logo on the headstock in dark black underline the stylish design of the instrument.
ESP has been making electric guitars since 1984 and its satisfied customers include Kirk Hammett, James Hetfield, Ronnie Wood and Max Cavalera. The popularity of these instruments has also led to the creation of the LTD subsidiary, which offers popular models in an affordable option. However, even in the case of ESP-LTD guitars, great emphasis is placed on the quality of workmanship and fitted components.
