The Premier range represents the more affordable instruments in the D'Angelico portfolio, but they meet all the quality craftsmanship requirements associated with the brand. The SS series semi-hollowbody guitars with a single-cut body shape, i.e. with a single bottom cutaway, attract attention with their sonic versatility. With two humbuckers (Duncan Designed), it delivers everything from crystal clear, warm, tones to blues/rock overdrive. It can thus appeal to a wide range of musicians from jazz purists to blues/rockers and fusion lovers.
The body of the guitar is made of laminated maple and a solid center block. A maple neck with Set-Thru construction, i.e. a neck recessed deeper into the body, is glued to an ovangkol fingerboard fitted with twenty-two Medium-sized frets. The neck's narrow C profile ensures smooth finger movement on the fingerboard and a comfortable fingerboard feel, while the positioning blocks made of imitation mother-of-pearl facilitate orientation on the fingerboard surface.
The body of the guitar is balanced by a typical Mother-of-Pearl headstock. Stylish Rotomatic Stairstep mechanics take care of tuning stability. On the other hand, the strings are attached to the Stairstep strings through a Tune-O-Matic type headstock. This provides the instrument with an attractive Art-Deco swing in addition to great resonance. The stylish look is complemented by the cream trim around the body, chrome hardware and a five-ply Scalini pickguard.
