The EOB Stratocaster is an instrument from the Artist series by American guitar manufacturer Fender. The abbreviation EOB stands for the initial letters of the name Ed O'Brien, who is none other than the guitarist and founding member of the British band Radiohead. Sure, he's no note-spitter, but that's not the point here at all. On the contrary, this signature guitar of his is specifically designed for guitarists with a penchant for layered ambient guitar surfaces, for whom a beautifully long sustain is an absolutely essential part of their sound.

The body of the instrument is made of alder wood, the finish is done with a glossy polyurethane lacquer. The maple neck has a pleasing 10/56 V profile, referring to the 1956 Strat Time Machine model on which it is based. The heavy maple fingerboard is fitted with 21 Narrow Tall frets, orientation is made easier by the traditionally placed black position markers.

The real magic of the guitar lies in the three pickups used. Their specific sound and the ability to set up different configurations open the gateway to a wide variety of sounds, layers and almost infinite sustain to expand your possibilities for expressive musical expression. Two volume potentiometers, one tone shutter and a five-position pickup switch are used to correct their sound. In addition, the Fernandes Sustainer neck pickup can be controlled with two switches - an On/Off switch and a three-position switch with Fundamental-only, Harmonic-only and Blend modes.

The strings are housed in a stylish single-coil tremolo on one side and classic vintage tuning machines on the other. A three-layer pickguard protects the instrument's lacquer from pick scratches. The creamy white colour of the body, pickups and potentiometers blends beautifully with the nickel/chrome mechanics and maple neck; thus ideally complementing the overall quality of the guitar.

The Stratocaster was first built in 1953 and is one of the most important electric guitar designs. The Stratocaster was the first guitar to be mass-produced and featured a double cutaway body and other technical innovations such as a vintage tremolo, the use of three pickups with a five-position toggle switch, and a jack socket design. Together with the Telecaster, it forms the basis of Fender guitar production and has been in continuous production as such since its introduction in 1954.
