The company NS Design, which focuses on the manufacture of electric stringed instruments, is headed by musical instrument designer Ned Steinberger. The electric violin, augmented with a deeper C string, bears all the aforementioned NS Design hallmarks, which together deliver a full, natural sound, exceptional comfort and elegant design. At the heart of this instrument is the Polar Pickup System electronics. Powerful piezo crystals respond to each string individually and excel with perfect dynamics, rich sound, high sensitivity to bowing as well as pizzicato playing. In addition, the pickup requires no batteries, so the resulting tone is absolutely clear and noise-free. Simple electronics, consisting of volume potentiometers and a tone shutter, are used for control.
Comfortable playing is ensured by a lightweight, nicely shaped body with perfect balance, a maple fingerboard with adjustable height and an ebony fingerboard on a fast maple neck. Players accustomed to classic acoustic violins will appreciate the removable body-simulating fold located on the E string side. The accurate and stable tuning system with self-clamping technology is light years ahead of traditional pegs. In addition, the tuning mechanism located on the body easily transfers the weight to the shoulder where it should properly be. Also included is an ergonomically shaped ebony chin rest and a reliable shoulder rest made of flexible aluminium construction and firm foam allowing individual adjustment.
