FOCAL Shape 50

The Shape series offers three versions of active studio monitors for nearfield monitoring, differing in power (50, 85, 105 W) and woofer size (4", 5", 6.5"). The common features are a number of innovative features taking Focal's traditionally high quality production a little further towards achieving the ultimate in sound.

The Shape 50 monitor, with its 85 W output and overall design, is ideal for rooms smaller than 12 m2. To achieve perfect frequency and stereo balance, its minimum recommended listening distance is 80 cm.

Key features of the Shape series include a tweeter with very low directivity for flexible listening positioning, two passive diaphragms on the sides to extend the frequency response in the lower frequencies, plus the ability to place the monitor close to the wall or directly on the wall without significantly affecting the resulting sound. The speaker's diaphragm is made up of flax fibre, which helps achieve a natural sound with low colouration, tighter bass and rich mid-range reproduction. The patented feature is the Tuned Mass Damper. This innovative diaphragm mounting system stabilizes dynamics and protects the diaphragm itself from distortion. Precise and detailed reproduction is guaranteed by N.I.C. (Neutral Inductance Circuit) technology. This keeps the magnetic field extremely balanced, resulting in a clear and distortion-free sound.

Depending on the position of the monitor in the room, it is sometimes necessary to adjust its frequency characteristics. A two-band equalizer, a high-pass filter and an adjustable transition frequency (160 Hz) serve this purpose. The construction of the monitor is a combination of walnut wood, MDF and vinyl. Stability and protection against shocks are provided by adjustable feet with rubber endings. Threaded holes located on the back and bottom of the structure allow the monitor to be installed on a microphone stand, wall or even on the ceiling (mounting kit not included).
