At the heart of the MPD226 is its bank of 16 velocity and pressure sensitive MPC pads, exclusive to Akai Pro. You can assign up to four different sounds to each of the MPC pads, for a total of 64 sounds at your fingertips. The MPD26 also borrows assignable Q-Link controllers from the MPC series, allowing you to control almost any software parameter in real time. You get four assignable Q-Link faders and four assignable Q-Link 360° rotary controllers. So you'll spend less time with the mouse and more time making music. Plus, the MPD226 offers a special set of Transport controls for instant access to the most commonly used DAW or sequencer controls.
While the MPC pads and Q-Link might be the heart of the MPD26, its brains are transplanted directly from the MPC. That's because the MPD226 isn't just a hardware driver, it also incorporates some of the core technologies that have made MPC the de facto standard. MPC Note Repeat is a feature that allows MPD (or MPC) series devices to automatically and rhythmically play rhythmic patterns, such as hi-hat saver notes, with complete accuracy. MPC Swing is like the "feel of soul and hip hop" because it perfectly humanizes sequences into natural timing. You can choose the accuracy and degree of timing of the swing. That's how you get the right feel. The MPD226 also offers MPC Full Level and MPC 16-Level on its pads.
It sends MIDI data via USB interface and you can use it with Mac or PC without installing any driver. The USB connection also provides power to the MPD226 unit, so the included USB cable is all you need. The MPD226 also has traditional DIN MIDI input and output connectors so you can use it with other MIDI hardware such as synthesizers and other sound modules. The MPD226 includes Ableton Live Lite software so you can start creating right out of the box.
It's the perfect interface between your creativity and your computer-based studio. Its fusion of intuitive controls and MPC technology with an easy USB connection to your computer gives you just the control tool you need.
