Taylor T5z electric hybrid guitars combine the sound and feel of electric and amplified acoustic guitars in one body. Compared to the T5 series, it offers a more compact body that's closer to electric guitars, and features just what "electric" players appreciate - a 12-inch fingerboard radius, jumbo-sized frets, and greater resistance to feedback in "higher-gain" settings.
The body of the T5z-PRO GB (Gaslamp Black) consists of a solid maple faceplate and solid sapele back and sides. The sapele neck is bolted to the body using a T-Lock joint, which guarantees precise adjustment and perfect vibration transfer, i.e. great sustain. Twenty-one frets and decorative position markers divide the ebony fingerboard surface.
The sound is picked up by three pickups - a magnetic sensor attached to the soundboard and two humbuckers (a cobbler and a neck hidden to the human eye). You can switch between the pickups with a five-position switch. It offers the following configurations - 1. neck humbucker and magnetic sensor, 2. neck humbucker, 3. neck humbucker, 4. humbuckers in parallel, 5. humbuckers in series. The character of the sound can be adjusted using the volume and EQ controls (bass, treble).
The strings are anchored in Taylor Nickel tuning machines and an ebony fingerboard via a bone fretboard and saddle. Nice workmanship is punctuated by a Gaslamp Black finish, an ebony veneer headstock adorned with a mother of pearl (Mother of Pearl) company logo, and bright body, fingerboard, and headstock binding.
