Its fully analogue electronics are concealed in a solid metal chassis, which exposes a high-quality 3PDT footswitch, three vintage potentiometers and input and output jacks. The Octave Deluxe is, of course, True-Bypass, so it doesn't affect your sound in any way when switched off. Power is taken care of by a 9-volt battery or adapter.
You use only three controls to set it up, namely Growl, Girth and Dry. Dry, of course, sets the ratio between the original signal and the generated octave. Growl and Girth independently adjust the volume of the generated tone, each offering a tone with a slightly different character - Growl has a dirtier sound, Girth a denser one. In addition, there's a Mid switch that boosts by 14 dB the frequencies around 400 or 850 Hz, which can be adjusted inside the pedal.
The Dunlop MXR Bass Octave Deluxe is thus a top-notch octaver that offers easy control and a wide range of sonic possibilities.
